So in just over a week I have gotten addicted to the show Departures. There are three seasons in total, however I have only been able to watch the first two seasons as that is all that is available on the UK Netflix, so hurry up Netflix and get the next season please.

If you’re looking for some inspiration or a reason to travel, then look no further then Departures. This show has revolutionised Travel documentary’s because in my personal opinion it’s the modern man/woman’s show. Long gone are the days where a documentary had to be hosted by a posh well to host who would only stay in 5 star hotels and never really get their hands dirty…

Departures follows Justin and Scott and their Cameraman Andre Dupuis as they backpack around the world, staying in hotels, camping in various locations meeting with locals and actually having the time of their lives. Through the show we experience the up’s and downs of backpacking from Relationships fizzing out, to family members being taken ill and even losing backpacks. With their unique perspective on life this Show defiantly get’s the thumbs up 5-star rating from me.

The Main Cast & Cameraman

Scott Wilson Departure TV Show

Scott Wilson – Host & Co-Creator

Scott is the man with the know how of the group, if it hadn’t had been for his connections and friends they had been able to meet up with on their travels who would show them around, I don’t think that this show would have been the success it would have been.

Scott is the Bear Grylls of the show when it comes to eating anything and everything that is offered to him or available.

Justin Lukach – Host

Justin is the big kid of the group, he wears his heart on his sleeve and is most defiantly the comedy element of the show. Justin doesn’t appear to be as well-traveled as Scott, so when you see him experience things such as trying food for the first time and trying new experiences its very humorous to watch.

Andre Dupuis – Cameraman & Co-Creator

Andre was the camera man of the show and from the little we saw of him, he was actually quite interesting in front the camera and think that it would have been good to have seen more of him. Andre camera skills were very good and the fact that he directed everything shows just how important he was to making this show a success.

Departures Season 1

In the first season we really get to know Scott and Justin on their adventure as they leave everything back home; jobs, friends, partners and family to take up a year of backpacking and adventure. Along the way they experience new cultures unlike what they have ever experienced before. We also see them deal with personal issues for Justin we see him deal with the break down of his relationship with his girlfriend, Andre he has to go home due to family illness and Scott worries of how being away is effecting his and Andre’s business and the consideration of going home.

Where did the Departures Team Visit?

Canada (Coast to Coast), Jordan, India, Ascension Island, Japan, Cook Islands, New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia and Canada (pushing North).

Departures Season 2:

We see that the guys are more comfortable in front of the camera and with Traveling. We start the show with Justin having continued to travel and is awaiting in Scott and Andre arrival as a sort of reunion, in hopes that he will convince them to travel once more with him (which is a success as we have season 2). This season was more like a lads holiday as the guys are more seasoned travellers and kind of already know what to expect when it comes to facing the prospect of Traveling from losing their luggage, to camping and knowing what to expect from staying out in the wilderness.

Where did the Departures Team Visit?

Morocco, Libya, Brazil, Cuba, Mongolia, Iceland, Zambia, Madagascar, Chile and Antarctica.

In both seasons the boys go off the beaten track and the more you get into the show the more you feel like you are right there along with the boys. If you need that push to go off and see the world, then watch this show it has defiantly inspired me so watch this space.
